Go Big, Go Home

I was sitting on the porch at 10 am when I saw my neighbor’s teenager approaching.

“You’re home early,” I said.

“They sent me home.” He shrugged. “I brought a cake in for my birthday.”

“You got in trouble? For a cake?”

“It was a big cake. Seven feet tall. I wanted enough for everyone.”

“And?”

“And I used firecrackers for candles.”

“Oh.”

“I thought they were like sparklers! I didn’t know they’d explode.”

“Is everyone okay?”

“Yeah, but the principal got . . . messy. I just wanted it to be an unforgettable day.”

“Well, sir,” I said. “I think you succeeded.”

      2. And it’s obvious you know your history. Sure wish it would catch on. David, by the way, is a great reader as well. 🙂
