This past week, a lot of the United States has been enduring winter conditions they are not used to. It’s been cold and snowy but we’re used to it so it’s not as big a deal as it is in, say, Texas or Georgia. I’ve lived in cold areas my whole life and maybe because of this, I’ve never considered just how deadly cold weather is. Extreme heat can be fatal but going outside in even slightly cold weather without proper clothes will kill you.
Story Prompt: February 2, 2026
Write a story where cold weather is the antagonist
By antagonist, I mean “the bad guy” in the story. Weather can’t be morally bad since it’s not a person, but it can still be a source of great conflict. Plus, as writers we can personify it and treat it like a character in the story.
If you write a story for this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.
Have a great week!

Our present weather in New York City is truly a bad guy since he’s been terrorizing everyone, including me. Between 4 layers of clothing and wind that could blow you across Long Island Sound, I think Mr. Weather rates a Wanted Poster at the Post Office. I love the graphic. It gave me a chill. 🙂

Ooh, I like that image, weather on wanted posters. You should write a story about that. 🙂
