Evening Concert at False Alarm City
Two wires lead from the ground, the only link to the people below. I connect my guitar and microphone.
“How’s the weather in there today?” I ask.
Last year, we thought an asteroid was going to kill us all. 100 super-rich preppers descended to their bunker and sealed the door, leaving the rest of humanity to perish.
It was a false alarm, but now they can’t get the nuclear-blast-proof door open. And boy, have they tried.
At least they get live music every evening.
“Sit back, relax, and enjoy,” I say. “First up, Stuck with You, then Nowhere to Run.”

I want to apologize to my fellow Fictioneer writers that I haven’t been able to read your stories the last few weeks. It’s been a pretty grueling time here for various reasons and while I managed to get a story written and posted, I couldn’t do much else. I’ll try to read as many of yours this week as I can. Have a good week!

I loved the Ronettes. They were so glamorous as they sang. The picture is great. Love your built-in DJ. This was fun. 🙂

There is a lot of great music at different eras. I like rediscovering it periodically.

Yes, indeed. At least they get good music in their self-imposed prison. 🙂 Thanks for reading, Violet.

Excellent choice of songs and I LOVE the title – it fits your story perfectly.

Thanks so much, Alicia. I like to think that the rest of the world calls them that. They will never live it down, if they ever get out. 🙂

Good story – and I love Martha and the Vandellas❤️(and don’t worry about reading other posts it can be a strain trying to keep up!)

Thank you, although I do enjoy reading other stories. But yes, it seems like most of my free time is taken up and just writing my story takes a lot of it.

Yeah, I was listening to that for a while afterwards. I was going to list out a bunch of other songs too, but ran out of words, haha.

oooh, this was so good! That would be a perfect outcome or they could all get in a spaceship and go to Mars. I hope life is much less grueling for you now.

Thanks for your kind words and I’m glad you liked the story. Yes, there could be worse things than all the billionaires disappearing, although it’s more about the system that produces them. Have a great week!
