A character talking into a mirror is talking to themselves but it can still reveal a lot about their inner selves. They could be psyching themselves up or berating themselves or practicing for another conversation. Maybe they’re voicing an inner monologue.

These are some mundane examples of talking into a mirror. However, in a supernatural story, there could be other things in the mirror, such as another world or an alternate reality.
