Noblesse Oblige

Kyle was beginning to regret buying the castle. Sure, it was cool, but the National Trust had made him agree to give tours.

“So here’s the Great Hall,” Kyle said to a group of elderly women. “Over there by the TV is where the Earl of Henley was murdered by his rival.”

“Where are the tapestries?” one woman asked.

“Hold on, let me just move the Stars Wars posters. There, all good? Okay, now down to the dungeon to see where Gregory of Kent was imprisoned. I just did laundry, so mind the drying racks. And nobody touch my underwear!”

I like the humour, I couldn’t imagine giving tours around my house, I don’t have a cellar and don’t want to know about the recurring stain dripping from the stairwell walls.

    1. Yeah, I’d prefer not to live in a castle if I had to bring people around. Maybe around the outside but even then it wouldn’t be great.

  2. What a great photo to muse from.

Love the Star Wars poster line and…nobody touch my underwear. I say this over and over…you are so great at these. “)

    1. Thanks, my friend. 🙂 I think this was FF number 575 or so. In some ways they get easier but in other ways, my standards of an acceptable story get higher so sometimes I won’t post if I can’t get a good enough idea. Thank you for reading, as always.

      1. Wow! 575. Why not put them in a collection and self-publish. Call it Flash. 🙂

    1. Yeah, I’d love to have a castle, but I don’t know if I’d want to give tours of it.

Too funny because I, too, almost went with buying the castle… but not the same intent 😉

    Nobless oblige, indeed!

One of the conversations (or monologues?) in my piece alludes to this. But where I thought I would go was to purchase the castle and turn it into hotel rooms/apartment suites, while keeping as much of the building intact.

David, you gave me a chuckle with your story. I hope he can charge an entry fee. That much inconvenience has earned it.

This made me laugh out loud. He agreed to the terms. 😉 Fun and quirky as always.
