The Pentadent Meets
The Five had gathered. A box sat in the middle of the council table.
“Let’s vote,” #1 said. “I think it’s okay. #2?”
“Acceptable.”
“Fine.”
“Passable.”
A nervous pause.
“I don’t like it,” #5 said finally.
A sigh of exasperation.
“You never like anything,” #2 said.
“I did some digging,” #1 said. “You’re not even a real dentist. You’re a veterinarian.”
A shocked gasp.
“Vets work on teeth,” #5 said, suddenly defensive. “Many kinds.”
“Take him away,” #1 said. Guards hauled #5 away, still screaming “my opinion matters!”.
“Anyway,” #5 said. “Can we agree that it’s fine? Great, meeting adjourned.”
“Well, I’m back,” he said.
I’m back from unintentionally taking the summer off from Friday Fictioneers. Every week I’ve meant to write a story, but it has just been such an insanely busy time that I haven’t been able to. Not that it’s much better now, but I’ll do my best. Have a good weekend!

Now you’ve got me thinking my dentist who one could say is a little unconventional, might moonlight as a vet. There are always animals in the waiting room be assuming belonging to patients, but maybe…it’s the other way around. Oh my.

My parents always said my dentist when I was young was a horse doctor in the war, although I have no idea if that was true (or which war 🙂 ).

I am informed that barbers at one time dealt with rotten teeth for the customers. I would expect No5 would have more experience across all animals, including the human ones.

It would probably be way harder to do dentistry on animals too since they aren’t particularly cooperative and some animals could bite your hand off if you’re not careful.

Dear David,
Glad to see you back after your busy summer. Whenever you show up it’s good. I’ve gone to some dentists I wondered about. No chairside manner to speak of.

It’s good to be back, Rochelle. I’ve been dealing with dentists (and oral surgeons and orthodontists) all summer so maybe this was why this was on my mind. I’ll be traveling most of October but I’ll try to keep contributing. 🙂
