Crowds are interesting things. It seems like, from a storytelling point of view, a story about a crowd of people would have hundreds or thousands of characters. However, when a lot of people get together, they tend to merge into a single unit which can act like a single character in a story. This is reflected in the quote by Nepalese writer Suman Pokhrel in his poem Standing in a Marketplace: “Pristine river of lives is swallowed by the crowd—Human getting lost into humans.”
A crowd can be quiet or joyful or angry and violent but it is a big entity with a lot of power and momentum. This is why crowds, even when they are celebrating, can be very destructive. On the other hand, a crowd can act with the courage that would be difficult for a single person to show.

New York has never been more crowded. It’s starting to resemble Tokyo. Yet I still see the same faces in my neighborhood rushing here and there amid many I don’t recognize. There is an angry feeling on the streets, no question yet we still carry on best we can.
You always come up with the nest themes. 🙂
