Manly in Pink
“So what’s this?” my neighbor Trent asked, swaggering over from his garage to stare at the truck-sized box in my driveway.
“Nothing,” I said casually, trying to keep the smugness out of my voice. “Just the Cookinator 9000-XY. 12 burners, a rotisserie spit, an attached smoker. 1600 square inches of cooking space, 60,000 BTUs output all together.” Trent had laughed at my little hibachi grill last week, saying it was unmanly. Now who’s manly, I thought savagely.
“Wow, good for you, Mike.” Trent impressed look quickly changed to a smirk as I opened the box. He snickered.
“Hey champ, great grill, except it’s pink!”
It was pink. They must have sent the wrong one, unless I’d ordered the wrong color by mistake. I started to panic.
“Ladies, check out Mike’s new grill,” Trent called as our wives came out of Trent’s house. They always got along better than me and Trent.
“Ooh, looks good,” Trent’s wife Aaliyah said. “I guess the barbecues are at your place from now on. Such a manly setup.”
Trent guffawed. “But it’s pink!”
My wife Olivia came and put her arm through mine. “It just shows Mike doesn’t worry what others think of him. Such confidence! That’s as manly as you can get.”
That shut Trent up for a while. When I saw him wearing a pink T-shirt a few days later, I had to smile.

We like a secure guy. Mike rocks…in pink. 🙂
