One Small Step for Kid

“I just feel weird sending our child alone into space,” Jessica said.

“She’s seven,” I said. “She’s not a baby. Plus, she’s just going to the moon for a playdate. What could go wrong?”

“And Tiffany’s with her.” Tiffany, the onboard AI would do all the actual driving. “Still . . .”

Haley ran out of the house. “Byemomandad,” she shouted before clambering inside the small spacecraft. She chattered with Tiffany as the G-force dampeners settled around her.

A minute later the ship shot up into the air, disappearing with a flash into the blue sky.

Jessica sighed. “They go up so fast.”

Such a visual. Just saw the moon with swings and a lemonade stand. Love the graphic as well as the photo. Like seeing her from the back walking to the spacecraft as if it were the crosstown bus. 🙂

Awwww! Love this! Brilliant dialogue. Playdates on the moon, love that line. Mums always find that separation hard…even for a quick jaunt to the moon lol Great last line!

  5. Dear David,

What could go wrong indeed? Not sure I’m ready for that world. I won’t use AI in my Word Docs let alone send my child into space with it. 😉 Clever story as always. That last line is perfect. Hope your Memorial weekend was a good one.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    1. Thanks, Rochelle. Yeah, I don’t think I’m ready for this world either. Of course as I drive down the highway at 75 mph, I think how terrifying that would be for someone 400 years ago, so who knows.
