Tell Me a Story
“Hmm. Okay, let’s see. The window. It just looks like a window, but every Halloween at midnight, it becomes a portal to the terrible world of Ba-Kyard. In the castle of Shed lives evil King Mower. Every week, King Mower comes out and runs around the kingdom, roaring and cutting off the heads of all his subjects, the poor Lahn people!”
Mom poked her head into the bedroom. “For Pete’s sake, Mike, just read her the library book I picked out for you.”
Alice pushed the library book further under her pillow. “Keep going, Dad,” she whispered. “You’re doing great.”

Love the last two lines. Yeah, Dad was doing great. You so excel at these.

Thanks! Yeah, a bespoke story is better than a premade one, at least at bedtime. 🙂

Thanks, Bernadette. Of course, I wonder how far he could go without running out of ideas. I guess we’ll never know.

Dear David,
Who needs a moldy old library book when you have “that Dad”?

Rochelle

Yeah, exactly. The best ones are the custom-made ones you get just for you, right? 🙂

Cute story, David. This little girl lucked out in having a storyteller father. King Mower is a murderous tyrant!

And cutting everyone down to size too so they’re all the same. Seems like an extended metaphor there. 😉

Hey Russell, I hope it’s going well these days. Thanks for reading. Sometimes the simplest stories are the best, especially when telling it to a kid.

I love what Dad makes of the terrible world of Ba-Kyard. No wonder the kid wants to hear more. Wonderful storytelling.

Thanks! I could just picture him looking around wildly, adding whatever he can think of to the story. 🙂

Alice reminds me of my youngest son! It was his step father who indulged him.

He’d better make it less interesting or the girl will never get to sleep, haha.
