Tell Me a Story

“Hmm. Okay, let’s see. The window. It just looks like a window, but every Halloween at midnight, it becomes a portal to the terrible world of Ba-Kyard. In the castle of Shed lives evil King Mower. Every week, King Mower comes out and runs around the kingdom, roaring and cutting off the heads of all his subjects, the poor Lahn people!”

Mom poked her head into the bedroom. “For Pete’s sake, Mike, just read her the library book I picked out for you.”

Alice pushed the library book further under her pillow. “Keep going, Dad,” she whispered. “You’re doing great.”

  8. Dear David,

Who needs a moldy old library book when you have “that Dad”?

Cute story, David. This little girl lucked out in having a storyteller father. King Mower is a murderous tyrant!

    1. And cutting everyone down to size too so they’re all the same. Seems like an extended metaphor there. 😉

    1. Hey Russell, I hope it’s going well these days. Thanks for reading. Sometimes the simplest stories are the best, especially when telling it to a kid.
