It’s kind of amazing that if you have a full-time job you spend a lot of life doing that. At the same time, unless your friends or family happen to be in the same field or the same office, they know very little about what your actual day to day life is like.

Work can be a source of a lot of conflict too, meaning it’s a great source of inspiration for stories. For example, in my job I talk to hundreds of people all over the world on a regular basis. There are a lot of stories that I hear about from them and also with dealing with them.

Story Prompt: February 27, 2023

Write a story in a specific job setting, with conflict specific to that workplace

This could be your job if you have one, or another one if you want to try to branch out. It might be hard to know exactly what another job is really like, but you can ask someone who works in that field or do some research.

If you want to share your story, you can either email me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com or submit it at the link here. I’d love to publish your story as well. I’ll try to write a story myself about this prompt and post it in the next while.

  1. There are stories everywhere, as you already know and in my case work wise on a film set, there are countless tales to tell. Just the food that’s served all day could be a story complete with acid reflux and the occasional food poisoning.

I remember an actor who also was somewhat of a glutton, who ate so much shell fish he piled on his plate from a lavish fish bar one of the Law and Order shows set up, had to be taken to the ER because he started to sweat and have shortness of breath. I really thought he was a goner. I was wrong thank goodness, but all that free food is like eating in Satan’s kitchen.

    1. You are great at finding the stories in daily life. That’s your talent, to be sure.

      1. It’s mere observation is all. We see but don’t observe said Sir Conran Doyle, and I think he was right. But it takes practice. 🙂
