Hello Musers, and welcome to another Monday!
Setting is an important part of storytelling since where and when a story takes place will have a big impact on the story. There is something wrong if a story that takes place in India in the 1800s and on Mars in the 2400s are exactly the same.
If it’s a realistic story, you should try to make sure all the details are as accurate as possible, but if it’s a fantasy or a futuristic story, you are freer to play with the details. A few days ago, I posted a story called The Hieroglyphics Teacher. It takes place in a world where hieroglyphics are taught in school and you can buy alchemy supplies through the mail. Not exactly realistic, but it fits the story.
Story Prompt: January 30, 2023
Write a story in an exotic setting.
This can mean a totally alien world or a realistic world (present day or in the past) where there are a few key details changed. I’ll post my story for this prompt next week.
If you want to share your story, you can either email me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com or submit it at the link here. I’d love to publish your story as well.
