My first job was at a secondhand shop where nothing ever sold.

“Where’s this from?” I asked my boss, pointing at a brass flowerpot.

“No idea.”

I had some ideas, even if they were all lies. That night, I wrote a history of that flowerpot. It started with murder and became more lurid from there.

The flowerpot sold in two hours. Soon I was writing stories for all our items. Word spread. People embraced the fiction, buying the items along with them.

My boss took off to scour garage sales. “We need more junk,” he said. “Keep the stories coming.”

Fantastic idea, every item has a history and people need to connect with the past. The items probably become the centre point at parties. ‘You know; this once belonged to ‘Hannibal Lector’, honestly.’

I could see this story being true in your case. 😉 Nothing sells like a good fake history. Well done.
