I would argue that a writer’s goal is not just to tell a story but to tell an impactful story. We want the reader to keep thinking about the story after they’ve finished reading.
There are a lot of ways to do this but one way is with description. We want the reader to be put into the story and so we need to show them what they see and hear and smell around them. After all, fiction is the original virtual reality. Without description, the story can feel like it’s taking place in a blank void. Let’s take the crayons and color in some of that white space.
Today’s prompt is:
Write a story about color
You can take this however you want, but make it a story with some sort of conflict in it, not just a descriptive essay.
If you want to share your story, you can either email me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com or submit it at the link here for a chance to have it posted with next week’s prompt.

Enjoy the weather, even if it rains.
…We want the reader to keep thinking about the story after they’ve finished reading. WOW is all I can say since, being the avid reader that you better than anyone know that I am, agrees 100% and often think about a story long after its end. That’s good writing in a nutshell, and description…color if you will…is truly the tale’s hero. I so love Muse on Monday since, it feeds the imagination so well. 🙂
