Have you ever tried to do anything while very drowsy? It’s like trying to think your way through a vat of molasses. The world seems like a dream. Maybe you don’t remember it later (or remember it incorrectly). The same could be true if you are sick, especially feverish, or maybe under the influence of some substance or other, like after surgery.
Stories written from this perspective have a dream-like quality to them and often have a unreliable narrator. After all, if the narrator doesn’t necessarily know what’s going on, how can we?
Story Prompt: October 19, 2026
Write a story where the main character is in an altered mental state.
If you write a story for this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com.
I’m on the road yet again this week. I hope you have a good one!
