Back when I lived in Korea, I used to like to visit abandoned buildings. Sometimes you would be hiking through the woods and come across a house that had just been left as it was, sometimes with everything still in it. My wife and I explored an abandoned school one night with the textbooks and desks and everything left in place (plus creepy messages spray-painted on the walls, like “Don’t turn around”, but that often comes with the territory in abandoned places).
Abandoned buildings often have a creepy, melancholy air. Sometimes they are used for another purpose. I love reading stories where people are living in the ruins of a previous civilization and repurposing the buildings for other things.

I love this. There’s one downtown by my dentist’s office with a huge sigh..KEEP OUT! Yet I’ve seen who look homeless as well as sinister come out one of the windows that are all broken and taped. It’s a part of New York they’ve yet to gentrify. Almost like it’s on another planet.
