I will admit I have not seen the 2002 movie Phone Booth, but I find the premise intriguing: a man is trapped in a phone booth and will be killed if he leaves. The whole movie takes place there.
There is something limiting about having all the action in a story happen in one place, especially something as small as a phone booth. Unless the person has some way of reaching outside the confined area (a phone, computer, magic, psychic abilities), it is a very internal sort of story. Even so there isn’t a lot of physical action like running and jumping.
Story Prompt: February 9, 2026
Write a story about a character inside a phone booth
To paraphrase the song “Do you Want to Build a Snowman”, it doesn’t have to be a phone booth. The character doesn’t have to be trapped there, but the whole story should take place there. Maybe it’s a closet or a bathroom or a spaceship escape pod or somewhere else confining.
If you write a story for this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.
Happy writing!

That’s a London phone booth if I’m not mistaken. Funny you don’t see them anymore here in the U.S. Was it Superman who changed in a phone booth? Did I just make that up? I could see a lot happening in one especially if you were with someone you really liked. What an intimate place to canoodle in. Romance always starts on the phone anyway. Love the graphic as always. 🙂
