Imagine what we could call a courting scene. There are two people with a spark of attraction between them but they don’t know each other very well, maybe at all. Now take out any dialogue and look only at what they do, where they look, their posture, what they do with their hands. There is a lot of communication that can be conveyed without any words.
Story Prompt: January 19, 2026
Write a romantic story with no dialogue
Don’t forget to add conflict to this story since conflict is the kernel of any story. Maybe it has to do with why they can’t speak, either they are too far away or are in a noisy area, or separated by a barrier, or they must stay quiet to preserve their lives.
If you write a story for this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.
Have a great week! Happy writing.

In screenplay writing they call this a meet and greet. I always liked that. Love the term, courting. So old-fashioned when everything is on the table honorably. No behind the scenes machinations. Remember the scene in the Godfather when Michael when he’s hiding in Sicily, meets Apollonia and is thunderstruck by her? He asks her father, can he visit with her…court her to use your word…and they’re never allowed to be alone, all the aunts and cousins following them, at a respectful distance, but again never left aone.
So love the two kittens. 🙂
