Writers, almost by definition, love books, and so a lot of story characters love books by extension. There are probably more stories about libraries than, say, dentist offices. I don’t have the stats but it’s a good guess.

Story Prompt: August 11, 2025

Write a story that takes place in a library.

There are a few ways you could go with a story like this: a romance (two characters fall in love while going for the same book, as in a certain episode of the Simpsons); a fantasy (people go into the story worlds or characters come out of the books, such as in the Inkheart books or the movie The Pagemaster); a horror (a haunted library, such as scenes in Ghostbusters or It); or anything else you can think of.

If you write a story with this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.

  1. You already know I love this being the bookaholic that I am, same as you. And like what Stephen King says, if you want to write, you have to read. I LOVE LIBRARIES. And this graphic so cool, is one of your best. I already have a tale brewing…canoodling in the stacks. 🙂

    1. Libraries are magical places for us bibliophiles. I could happily live in a library 🙂

    1. Thanks for participating, Nancy. I really liked the story. I tried to post a comment there, but got an error, not sure why.

      1. Thanks very much, Dave. Sorry about the posting snafu; I’m not sure why either. I’ll take a look in spam; maybe you landed there.
