This Familiar, Alien Air

The air here smells familiar now, which means I’m forgetting my home planet. It’s been decades since I crash-landed on this world. The inhabitants were initially wary but respectful. Their language is subtle, but I get by.

I live in this ruined castle I found, adding bits of technology I salvaged from my craft to create a castaway’s hermitage.

I built the telescope from scratch, though, through years of grinding lens and careful craftsmanship.

It took another six months to locate my home star and spinning around it invisibly, my planet.

Earth.

I wonder if they’ll ever come rescue me.

    1. Yeah, it doesn’t sound like too bad of a situation. Still, there’s nowhere like home.

I have to agree with Nancy. Looks like even space travel suffers homesickness.

    1. Yeah, I’m sure. It’s hard enough being in another country. I can’t imagine being millions of miles from home.

    1. It would help to find a friend or group of friends. Loneliness makes homesickness so much worse.

  7. Dear David,

Eath needs to rescue itself. He’s probably better off where he is. Hope you’re having a great weekend.

    1. That may be true, Rochelle. Still, it’s hard not to feel homesick for his home. Maybe it would better for some other people to come join him instead. Thanks for reading, as always. 🙂

    Oh this is nicely written
A whole book interview space of 100 words. It’s sounds like they’ve done alright and have made the best of a bad situation.

    1. Thanks, Laurie. Yeah, as alien worlds go, it could be far worse, I suppose. Sounds rather idyllic, really.

Any chance you can make them think you are a God?
A little techno magic, perhaps. 🙂

    1. Probably could at least be a ruler, with all that technology. All it takes is a bit of ambition.

The “castaway’s hermitage” looks pretty sweet. I wonder if he really does want to be found?

    1. Hmm, good point. Maybe he thinks he does but wouldn’t like it if he really was. It would be nice to have my own castle. 🙂
