Muse on Monday – April 28, 2025

A staple of romantic comedies is the “meet cute”. This is where the two romantic leads run into each other for the first time, sometimes literally. One common example has one of them bumping into the other carrying papers, which scatter all over. The two future lovers gather them up together, with maybe their hands touching accidentally as they reach for the same paper. Blushing and stammering are often involved. It’s cute.

This kind of sudden meeting can be anything but is something unusual that pushes the two people together and jump starts the relationship in a cute or charming way.

  1. This is sweet. Reminds me of my favorite Nancy Meyer film, The Holiday. We need more romantic ‘meet cute’ films to lighten our woes. Love the Graphic. 🙂

    1. I always thought of it as a modern term but apparently it’s been around since the early 40s, at least.
