I wrote a story once about a vertical city. The rich people lived at the higher levels and it got poorer as it went down. Sort of like the Snowpiercer train stood on its end, or the silo from the Silo series.
What would it really be like if a city got stood on end? Would the subways become elevators? Would we all take the stairs or ladders? Would the rich people live on top or would people all be mixed together. Honestly, if it’s your story, it’s up to you.
Story Prompt: January 20, 2025
Write a story about a vertical city
This could be a city in an underground shaft or built on the side of a cliff or in a single building or one that’s literally been tipped on its side for some reason. It’s up to you.
You can send me a link if you write a story for this prompt and post it on your own site or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.
Have a good week. Keep fighting the good fight.

This reminds me of your novel Colossal U, the idea of variation of size, or in this case flipped as if the city was a large coin.
I think as far as the rich being on top, it would be more of a potpourri with everyone tossed in together. Love that idea. It’s so Democratic. Remember that???
Sarcasm on Inauguration day.

I’d like to read a story about a city with randomly assigned houses, so you get all types tossed together and living next to each other. It would rife with conflict.
