So it turns out that Christmas is this week. So for this week’s prompt, we’re going to write a Christmas story.
What exactly is a Christmas story? There are several different meanings of this. These are:
- A story that takes place at Christmas but isn’t explicitly about Christmas (e.g. Home Alone, Diehard)
- A story that deals with the stories of Christmas, either the Christian tradition (e.g. the opera Amal and the Night Visitors) or the secular story of Santa Clause (e.g. Elf, the Santa Clause)
- A Hallmark Christmas story
The third one isn’t an official name, but it’s the type of story that takes place during Christmas and deals with the values of Christmas: things like family, giving, charity. They often deal people re-centering their lives and getting back to what matters (e.g. family instead of money).
Story Prompt: December 23, 2024
Write a Christmas story
It’s up to you what kind of story you write but try to do something outside the stereotypical. Let me know if you write one. You can send me a link if you write a story for this prompt and post it on your own site or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

I SO LOVE the graphic for starters. I’m here thinking of my favorite Christmas movies, especially The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant. My own holiday recollections are more along the line of John Waters rather than Hallmark Presents.
I’d love to read the essays MUSE will inspire since I can then live vicariously through them. 🙂
