Ad Astra…bucks

Sara hadn’t had a customer in two months, which was a-okay. Her cafe on the Harmonie asteroid was the only one within a million miles, so she could afford to charge $1000 for a coffee and pastry if anyone came. If not, she had time to read.

Sara watched the spaceship approach. She put the coffee on and started baking muffins. It descended but landed several miles away. With binoculars, she could just make out a glowing green and white sign.

Starbucks.

No point in fighting it. She sighed and turned off the Open sign. Back to space piracy then.

    1. Well, that doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Maybe the Starbucks gets forced out before it can be joined by a McDonalds and a Walmart.

    1. Yep, I’m back. Hopefully I’ll be around more regularly for the next while. I meant to while I was away but you know how that goes.

    1. Very true. Now I can see Starbucks being a spacefaring corporation in a satirical story. 🙂 Anything to make a buck.

    1. Yep, it’s hard to get away from those types of chains. I’m sure if there are every moon bases, there will be a Starbucks there before long.

    1. It seems that way. Maybe she just knew you can’t win against a big corporation like that, or maybe she went over and destroyed the new Starbucks, then came back and turned on the Open sign again. 🙂 You can decide.

Nice tale-spinning, David. Corporations are tenacious beasts 😦

  6. Dear David,

There’s no getting away from Starbucks, is there? Although 1000 is a little steep for a muffin and coffee. 😉 I guess in the Green-Walled Treehouse it makes sense.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
