Eldritch Cutie

Why did people automatically associate a writhing mass of tentacles with the word “horror”? Jesse thought. It was cute. She pushed a scrap of sausage towards a questing pseudopod. It disappeared with a slurp.

She wasn’t sure if it would grow legs, but she wanted to bring it to school. She’d been having that idea a lot lately.

A protuberance opened and a single naked eyeball blinked at her.

“Oh, wow! Hey, little guy. Hendrix, come see this!” The cat had been hanging around the thing lately. He should see this.

“Hendrix! Come here!” Where had that cat gone now?

  1. I love that the cat’s name is Hendrix, as if she named him after Jimi.

I think aesthetics are always very personal. What I find attractive you might find weird.. Love she thought it was cute.

Rochelle’s choices always intrigue me. It’s a perfect image for you with that imagination of yours.

I could see her bringing it to school for Show and Tell. 🙂

    1. Yeah, not sure where the name Hendrix came from, just came to me. Maybe he yowls at night all along the watchtower 🙂 It’s like that with food too, in terms of acquired tastes. One person’s disgusting thing is another one’s delicacy.

Thank goodness Hendrix doesn’t have legs, I can just imagine the neighbours being slurped up. A horror story fell out from this, or perhaps the cat decided to move to a better home.

Ooh, this is so much more sinister than it first appears. I hope she doesn’t take it to school!

Love the title, David. I also like what you see here. Something that draws and repels at the same time, with a voracious hunger. Poor Hendrix 😦

Oh no. All is not as it seems. Not so cute. Nicely twisted at the end there.

  11. Dear David,

So much for “cute.” Quirky and fun as always. Well, maybe not for Hendrix. Happy Labor Day.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
