One thing that you usually don’t want to put in your stories is daily tasks. If you write a page or two about someone’s morning routine, the reader will get impatient for you to get to the important part.

The difference is if something is different, especially if there is some point of conflict. For instance, the main character goes through their daily chores but is convinced someone is just standing behind them the whole time. Or maybe someone moves to another country and so their normal routine is now in a very different context. In this case, the normal routine helps to highlight how strange the new situation is.

Story Prompt: June 10, 2024

Write a story that centers around a daily routine

Make sure that there is conflict since otherwise it is not a story, and isn’t very interesting to read. It could be a funny story, or scary or anything else you choose.

If you write a story for this, you can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week. I will post my story for this prompt next week as well.

Good luck and happy writing! Have a wonderful week.

  1. As I read this, my TALE’S between my legs since, I’m the Queen of Detail. Will take note of this. The graphic reminds me of your book GASP. 🙂
