Florera

Florera

“Go, Florera!” The vase leaps off my arm and flies away.

“How does it do that?” my friend asks.

“I’ve trained Florera since she was a shot glass.” I shrug. I’m not about to explain the whole history of vasery now.

“What if she breaks?”

“Florera’s tempered. Sure, there are predatory florists out there, but I’m careful.”

We see Florera flying slowly back, filled with long-stemmed roses.

“She even found baby’s breath,” my friend said. “How?”

“She’s the best.” I pat Florera and take out the flowers. “Here.”

“Thanks! Jenny has to forgive me now.”

“Oh, definitely.”

He’ll be back.

As some of you may know, I work in the international admissions office of a university in Pennsylvania, in the US. A while back I wrote a children’s book about a group of animals that work in an international admissions office after all the humans go home for the night.

I just released it publicly last week. It’s called GASP! A Night in International Admissions. Check it out here, if you want.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I like that line too. I had it as demitasse at first, but shot glass works so much better.

  12. Dear David,

Florera’s a keeper. Full of evasive maneuvers 😉 (I couldn’t help myself). Good story from your store of imaginative stories.
