Muse on Monday – April 1, 2024

Happy Easter everyone, plus April Fools Day and the beginning of a new month.

Do you like April Fools Day? I didn’t do any pranks, although I have in the past a few times. Pranks work in fiction, although because fiction runs on conflict, it is much more likely for a prank to go horribly wrong, either with funny or tragic results, depending on what kind of story you are writing. Because of this, a prank is a good inciting event, meaning something that gets the conflict of a story going.

Story Prompt: April 1, 2024

Write a story with a prank in it.

If you write a story for this, you can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week. I will post my story for this prompt next week as well.

Good luck and happy writing! Come back next Monday for another story prompt.

  1. I remember a prank that as a young girl didn’t find all funny. I was working as a waitress in a private dining room when one of my co-workers came in with a box that long-stemmed roses come in, announcing to everyone they were for me.

Being the romantic I was even then, was beside myself with an innocent expectation, but when I opened it…the box was empty. As she crooned April Fools, i burst into tears.

Love the graphic…I relate to the one on the left who too looks a little innocent. 🙂

    1. Oof, that prank is just cruel. Some people use pranks as an excuse to be jerks. Thanks for reading. Yeah, I like these little guys too. 🙂

      1. It was so many years ago but still stings in its remembrance. I was so young. Like offering Bambi a snack in an empty bag. Your graphics should go into a collection. 🙂
