Happy Monday, everyone! Welcome back to the Treehouse for a new writing prompt.
If you know someone very well, you might be able to tell what they are thinking just by seeing their facial expressions. That’s because we can convey a lot through our expressions even if we don’t say anything out loud. Facial expressions are used in fiction but often only back up what is said in the dialogue. This is often because facial expressions are much subtler than the language we have to describe them. But that’s where the challenge is.
Story Prompt: March 18, 2024
Write a story that centers around a person’s expression.
It is up to you how you might interpret this but it will probably be a zoomed in type of story that deals with only a few seconds or minutes of time. In any case, let me know what you write. I’d love to read it.
If you do write a story for this, you can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week. I will post my story for this prompt next week as well.
Good luck and happy writing! Come back next Monday for another story prompt.

I love the photo you used. Eyes tell us so much. One could say they give us away.
Good topic. You never run out of great ideas. 🙂

This is a Saudi woman, I think, but I’ve always noticed that Afghan women have the most striking eyes. I get a lot of their passports so I notice it. Not sure why but it’s quite something.
