Frank
“Whatcha watching?”
I was just thinking how much it sucked being constantly alone when I heard the voice coming from below the TV.
“Whatcha watching?” it asked again, slow and curious.
“A documentary about crushing cars.”
“Cool.” It was coming from the toy koala my niece made for me.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
“Frank,” the toy koala said.
We sat there for a minute. “You wanna watch too?”
“Sure.”
I carried Frank to the couch.
“Popcorn?”
“You got any eucalyptus?”
“Sorry.”
“Then I’m good,” he said.
And just like that, it was me and my new roommate, hanging out.

This week I and another staff member are on a service trip with a group of amazing students. This story idea was suggested by one of them.
I have a menagerie of stuffed animals all named, many after U.S. Presidents, so I totally relate to Frank. 🙂

I can totally see that, knowing you. I guess the closest to Frank might be FDR, being a Franklin.

A friend in need is a friend indeed. Great story of loneliness turning good.

Frank looks sensitive and intelligent. A good listener, too. Who knows where this might lead.
I love this story!

Oh! I LOVE this take on the prompt. Perhaps the narrator will pick up some eucalyptus leaves the next time he’s at the store.

Thank you, Alicia! Yes, that would be a good continuation to the story, as they build a little life together.

Maybe there’s no eucalyptus, but maybe the narrator had some ‘shrooms?

haha, maybe. I like to leave a bit of ambiguity as to what is actually happening.
