Muse on Monday – February 5, 2024

I haven’t been around much the last few weeks since I was in the middle of moving houses, which you know if you’ve done that, takes a lot of time and energy.

However, in writing, moving houses is a very common way to start a story since it is a complete change of setting and (often) characters. It is used in many different genres too. For examples:

Romance:   the person moving in meets the girl/boy next door and falls in love

Fantasy:     the person moving in finds something magical about the new house (such as a wardrobe leading to a new world)

Horror:       the new house is haunted or cursed in some way

Science Fiction:  the new house is ultra-modern and something goes wrong with the AI/robotic systems

…and so on. There are innumerable stories that we can make around moving. This is especially true if it’s a very long move, such as to another country (or another planet).

Story Prompt: February 5, 2024

Write a story about moving to a new house/apartment.

It’s up to you what genre and tone you use (any are possible). Let me know if you write one since I’d like to read it.

You can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week. I will post my story for this prompt next week as well.

Good luck and happy writing! Come back next Monday for another story prompt.

  1. I love how you use real life to spin a tale out of it, and the graphic is wonderful…she looks like Bob Marley if he decided to switch genders.

Moving is always traumatic since, changing one’s lair that’s become so comfortable is hard…throws you for a loop…but before you know it, you’re all comfy in the new one even more so.

Missed Muse on Monday while she was moving, but happy to see her back, bags all unpacked. 🙂
