Luddite Philanthropy
People whispered about the creepy house because that is what people do. It had hundreds of shoes hanging from one outside wall. People said that they were trophies from the owner’s victims.
Gossip leads to accusations, then to investigations, so the police stopped by.
Mrs. Hodges, 92 and half blind, sat while the officers explained their concerns.
“They were supposed to be for homeless people,” she wailed. “Take a pair, leave a pair. I’m not on the FaceSpace. I don’t know how to tell people.”
The officers kindly threw away the rotting shoes and made a donation in her name.

Hi all, I’m currently in the Dominican Republic, nearing the tail-end of a recruitment trip. I don’t think I’ll be able to read many other stories this week, but I’ll try. If anyone else wants to read stories based on this photo prompt, click here.

Dear David,
That’s how it starts isn’t it? I remember a particular Twilight Zone back in the day where aliens isolated a neighborhood and watched the people turn on each other, accusing each other of being aliens. It said so much about human nature. Scary.
Subtly brilliant story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
