Muse on Monday – July 31, 2023

Welcome to the last day of July! It’s also Flag Day in Hawaii. Did you know that Hawaii’s flag is the only one in the US that has a foreign nation’s flag on it (United Kingdom)? It was also the flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii before that was overthrown.

For the summer, Muse on Monday writing prompts are a combination of a theme and a genre. Last week we had healing and science fiction. Here is the prompt for this week.

Story Prompt: July 31, 2023

Theme: Innocence

Genre: Horror

Horror is definitely an acquired taste, as genres go. It involves scary and often disturbing scenes and ideas. However, there are definitely levels, from graphic and gory killings to things that are just a little creepy. If you want to participate in this prompt, think of what level you’d be comfortable with. Horror can be psychological with nothing actually physical, or it can be supernatural (ghosts, magic, demons), creature horror (monsters), or anything else that you might find scary.

As always, if you’d like to share yours, you can leave a comment or send me an email at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit it at the link here.

  1. I didn’t know about Hawaii’s flag, so thanks for the history lesson.

Horror and innocence…polar opposites. My first thought was my first horror flick when I was a kid…House On Haunted Hill with Vincent Price. Boy, did that scare me down to my ankle socks.

If I were to pen a story it might be about someone who could laugh at something frightening, like that kid who said so casually…I see dead people. Forget the film. Being such a scardy cat, I guess this genre might have to leave me by the curb. Love the graphic, as always. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Mason. As a geography buff and former teacher, I like to share a bit of knowledge here and there when I can.
