Happy Juneteenth to anyone in the United States. Today is the day people remember the end of slavery in the US.
One of my hobbies is finding funny and interesting signs, not just street signs but the warning or advisory signs that businesses put up. Sometimes you can tell there is a story behind it, especially if it’s handwritten or typed up on a computer. They can be good inspiration for stories.
Story Prompt: June 19, 2023
Write a story based on the picture below or another sign that you have seen.

This is one I took in a temple in Malaysia since you have to take your shoes off at the door. You can imagine all kinds of stories that could come from this situation or other places where this sign might be put.
If you want to share your story with me, leave a comment or send me an email at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit it at the link here.

In India, it’s quite common to lose our shoes or slippers outside temple where security isn’t tight or no reservations are offered. The traditional practice is: if your slippers or shoes were stolen – instead of fretting over it- just pick anyone else’s and walk away peacefully. 😁

Yeah, I’m sure it’s very common. I used to live in Korea where you take off your shoes before going into a lot of restaurants. I always wondered how often people walked off in other people’s shoes. My feet are huge, especially in Korea, so it wasn’t going to happen to me, luckily. I guess you should wear old shoes to a temple so it won’t be a temptation, haha. 🙂

Indeed. Like people wearing old clothes to workplaces or to play festival of colors- they do wear old shoes or slippers to avoid losing new ones. 😁

yeah, you definitely don’t want to wear anything nice to a Holi festival. 🙂

I think we should take off our shoes everyplace that we go. No one comes into my house without slipping theirs off.
I know in Japan and China it’s so automatic.
I too love signs that I take as signs…I’m always very inspired to see a cross, and not on a church either. Sometimes the sun makes one across the sky. I think it’s an angel late for an assignment.
My favorite sign years ago was at Buckingham Palace that said…leave Queen’s Guards alone.. I forget their proper name but it was something like that. Makes me think of the Lucy episode when she tries to get one to smile but fails. Nice graphic, as usual. 🙂

In Newfoundland, you always take your shoes off when you go inside since it’s often either snowy or muddy outside. I still do that automatically. In Korea, you often take off your shoes at the entrance of restaurants too, at least ones where you sit on the floor. The floor is raised at the entrance so it’s easy to know when you take them off and when not to.
