The Sum of All Games
The field below is an undulating Rorschach test, ten thousand overlapping players forming ever-shifting patterns of dramatic wins and crushing defeats.
Death has freed me from the shackles of linear time but by concentrating, I can distill individual events.
The Championโs memorial is nearest, the crowd standing silently for their lost hero. I move backward, like paging through a book, watching each milestone passed.
Then, I see that carefree boy sneaking in to play, before I was the Champion.
I turn away from the endless night and clutch at those innocent moments that were, in the end, the very best.

You’re so good at these. You’re my flash fiction hero. ๐

I love the word truly. So old school, so Shakespeare, so romantic. ๐

My baseball fan was a ghost, too.

Great minds think alike, eh? At least in your story Jeff got to eat a hot dog and have a beer. That’s how I want to spend my dead years. ๐

I let myself read this twice in order to absorb the meaning. This is very well done.

Dear David
Only you could take a picture of a baseball stadium and turn it into a work of art. Well done.
