Do you listen to music when you write? I listen to a wide variety of music but I like energetic music like rock or techno when I write. Sometimes, though, when I write about a certain place, I will listen to music from that place: for example, I listened to a lot of Iranian music while writing a novel recently about Iran.

Music can be a great inspiration for fiction and vice versa. For example, I have a friend who writes stories using various songs as inspiration. It is a great exercise to listen to a piece of music of any genre and see what stories and images come to mind.

Write a story based off a piece of music.

This can be either a story based on the lyrics just based on the feelings you get from the song; either a song you know well or one you found randomly online or on the radio.
