Summer 2021 Young Writers Contest

It is summer and a chance to explore new things. The Green-Walled Treehouse is launching a contest for all the eager young writers out there. Here are the details. You can see the full rules at the bottom of the page.

Who Can Enter

  • Anyone between ages 8 to 18 can enter
  • You can only submit a story you wrote yourself
  • The story should be between 100-2000 words

How to Enter

  • Fill out this form and paste your story into the box when asked
  • Any story submitted for publication on The Green-Walled Treehouse through the submissions link between June 1 and August 31, 2021 will be eligible as long as it fits the criteria.
  • Because this involves prizes, you must include the name and email of your parent/guardian or teacher

Prizes

There with 2 divisions, one for 8-13 year olds and the other for 14-18 year olds. Within each division, there will be 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 3 runners-up.

Who can enter:
  • You are eligible for this contest if you are between 8 and 18 years old or are one of those ages for some part of 2021 (e.g. if you are 7 and your 8th birthday is in December, 2021 or if you’re 19 and your 19th birthday was in January, 2021).
  • If you are a close relative of David Stewart, you are not eligible to win prizes.
  • If there is a law where you live that says you cannot enter, then you won’t be able to.
How to enter:
  • There is no fee to enter.
  • Fill out the story submission form here: http://bit.ly/treehouse2021. To be eligible for the contest, you must also include the name and email of a parent or teacher.
  • You must submit the story between 12:00am EST, June 1, 2021 and 11:50pm EST, August 31, 2021.
What do submit:
  • Only fictional short stories are eligible. They can have some real elements in them, but they should be mostly fictional.
  • Stories should be in English.
  • You can only enter a story that you have written yourself. Do not use quotes, characters or stories from movies or books or other published work.
  • Stories should be between 100 and 2000 words. You can submit longer stories that might be published on the site, but they won’t be eligible for the contest.
  • You can submit as many stories as you want.
  • Your story won’t be rejected for grammar and spelling mistakes but try to edit it as much as possible.
  • You own your story but you give us permission to publish it on the website and in a compilation book of selected stories, if it is selected. However, the Green-Walled Treehouse will not make any money from your story.
  • Your story should be appropriate for most people to read, so don’t put any swearing, graphic violence or anything else in your story that would not be good for kids to read.
Judging:
  • Stories will be judged anonymously, meaning the judges will not know any information about the writer, such as age, country, etc.
  • Judges will be selected from people in the writing and education field.
  • Winners will be emailed on September 20 and then we will announce them publicly on September 24.
  • All decisions of winners are final.
