Different writing prompts bring different questions to mind, as a writer. For instance, if the story is about a murder, the overarching question is who did it and maybe how. For this prompt, the main question to answer is why.

Write a story about a character breaking into their own house

Why would someone have to do this? The most mundane reason is that they accidentally got locked out, but maybe someone has taken over the house and the police can’t help for some reason. Maybe something far more out there. I won’t give you any ideas, but think about it.
