I find it interesting to look at the jobs the main characters have in stories. A disproportionate number seem to be writers, for example, since that is what writers know. There aren’t a lot of electricians as main characters though. Just for fun, I went back through the novels I’ve written to see what jobs they had. I did one gardener main character, but the rest were usually some sort of white-collar job, if they had a job at all.
It depends on the type of story you are writing but manual labor jobs generally don’t have as much potential for excitement as ones like detective, soldier, actor, mad scientist, etc. Could there be an interesting story about a custodian or a factory worker? Absolutely.

Happy belated Valentine’s Day ❤️

I’ve written about a chef, guitarist, cop, famous actor and an Israeli businessman who turned out to be a shit, pardon my street parlance.
I like the idea of using meat and potato men, or 9 to fivers as leads in a story. They are suddenly important, more so than in their regular, normal existence.
Gotta love MUSE who never disappoints. How many women can you say that about David? I mean really! 🙂
