A story where the conflict is between two parties of very unmatched power is known as a David and Goliath story, from the story in the Bible of the shepherd boy who took on a 9-foot-tall warrior. Examples of this could be Star Wars, where the rebels take on the Imperial forces or Avatar where the Na’vi fight the human corporate forces.

In this type of story, the lesser party, the underdogs, are the main characters and while they don’t have traditional strength or numbers, they have some other hidden strength that makes up for their apparent weakness.

Story Prompt: January 12, 2026

Write a David and Goliath type story

All the examples I listed above are war-type stories but this doesn’t have to be the case. A character could fight against an industry, government, social system, etc.

If you write a story for this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.

Have a blessed week.

  1. For some reason this made me think of Tony. The concept is great, and I love the story of David and Goliath. It’s a favorite of mine. The graphic as usual is perfect. 🙂
