Sometimes I like to write a story that is all dialogue. It’s very in-the-moment, but obviously it can be challenging since there is no exposition or description to help explain things. And you can’t have more than two characters or you’ll lose track of who is speaking.

Another interesting challenge is to write a story with at least two characters with no dialogue at all. There are lots of reasons this could be: either they are fighting and not speaking; or they communicate through looks and gestures; or they’re in a situation where they can’t speak for whatever reason.

Story Prompt: November 24, 2025

Write a story with at least two characters that has no dialogue.

If you write a story with this prompt, send me a link to your story on your own site, either in the comments or at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.

Have a great week. Happy Thanksgiving if you are in the US.

  1. I am simply nuts over this graphic. It’s so 40s or even 50s. It’s classic. When you meet someone who takes your breath away, and it happens. Perhaps not often, but when it does, there’s really little to say your heart doing all the talking. Loved this. 🙂

    1. yeah, I really liked this one too, the black and white and the way the blues pop. Thanks for reading it, as always.
