The Sweet Life

The air was filled with delicious smells and the sounds of nightmares. The Hive was in port, that wandering ship of bees the size of Shetland ponies.

“Where’s your brother?” Mom asked. We watched through the slats of the blinds as two drones buzzed by, tattooed and addled on mead.

I shrugged.

“Your uncle ran away with the bees,” Mom murmured. “Came back with hair dyed black and yellow and a stinger wound from an apiary fight.”

“I’ll go find Harry for you,” I said. “Make sure he’s safe.” Suddenly, I had an overwhelming urge to visit the Hive myself.

    1. Maybe. The next installment will be him coming home from sea, just like his uncle maybe. Thanks for reading, Violet. 🙂

  5. Dear David,

I’ll bet some great honey will come from bees that size. If they’re indeed honey bees. 😉 Keep that quirky imagination working overtime.

this was wel written and on a side note -it reminded me of a recent news story about a man who was mowing some grass in Austin TX and mowed over a bee hive – and he ended up dying from it!

    1. Oof, yeah, that sounds bad. I’m sure the bees down in the south are fierce too.
