I used to wonder, in the story Jack and the Beanstalk, how the giant’s castle stayed up in the clouds. What’s more, what did they do with their garbage? If they dug down, could they poke through the cloud or was it solid?
The answer to all these questions is, of course, it’s magic so don’t think about it. However, it is fun to imagine what would happen if you injected realism into a fairy tale: in other words, replacing “magic” with a more realistic explanation. Like how exactly did Rapunzel wash her hair or how did the witch build a candy house in Hansel and Gretel?

This has me going, like was Sleeping Beauty depressed, and that’s why she slept so much? Or Bambi was so meek he had self-esteem issues and could have used a therapist? And maybe Peter Pan was trans before we knew what it was. Yes, we can go and on and on. Did the 7 Dwarves litter? Hmm.

When I tried doing my Let Me Tell You a Story videos, I retold fairy tales and it’s amazing how much fairy tales gloss over, like how solid golden eggs might affect the local economy, haha.
