Muse on Monday – March 4, 2024

Happy Monday everyone. I’m back from my trip and it’s the first week of March.

The theme this week is weapons. That might be disturbing to some people (and if so, I apologize) but weapons come up a lot in stories. There are two things to remember: first, there are many types of weapons and not all do physical damage (knowledge might be used as a weapon, for instance). Also, just because a story involves weapons doesn’t mean it is a violent story. Often the story is about the threat of a weapon. For example, during the Cold War, the US and the USSR did not use nuclear weapons against each other but the threat of them defined the entire time period. Weapons can also be ceremonial or decorative and not be a threat at all.

Story Prompt: March 4, 2024

Write a story about a weapon.

If you do write a story for this, you can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week. I will post my story for this prompt next week as well.

Good luck and happy writing! Come back next Monday for another story prompt.

  1. I’m reading Raymond Chandler mysteries when everyone carries a gun, or gat, as one was called in the 1940s.

He liked describing them…one has a pearl handle a woman can tuck into her purse. A man has his nestled in a shoulder holster. They seem to accessorize all of his characters. It’s a wonderful image not to mention topic for a short story.

And the graphic is great, as usual. 🙂
