Muse on Monday – November 27, 2023

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but of course, that is the whole point of the cover. Every day, artists in publishing companies try to design covers that will help you judge the book inside positively.

As someone who occasionally self-publishes books and makes my own cover art, it is interesting to look at what goes into a cover design, from the art to the colors to the font and font size. When the person seeing it doesn’t know anything about the story, all of that is important.

This week, either go to a bookstore or go online and find a book cover for a book you don’t know and write a story based on it (don’t read the summary). You can use the same title. Of course, that is all copyrighted, so this is just a writing exercise. If you do post anything online and include the cover art, make sure you credit the artist or company.

Story Prompt: November 27, 2023

Write a story based on a book cover for a book you don’t know.

You can send me a link to your story if you’ve posted it somewhere or send it to me at info@greenwalledtreehouse.com. You can also submit your story here for a chance to have it published on the site next week.

Good luck and happy writing! Come back next Monday for another story prompt.
