A Bar For All Tastes

You enter through a normal-looking door off the street, something in a rich brown for tradition’s sake. Inside is a reception desk. A selection of chocolates on the desk is the only hint of what lies beyond.

This is where you make your first choice. Families with children immediately go upstairs. The three floors above reception hold enough fantasies and indulgences in Wonka-esque extravagance to satisfy children of all ages. Drink out of a chocolate river or eat candy in unending supply, whatever you want, with plenty of wet wipes and Pepto Bismol at the end of the frenzy.

The more discerning customer enters through the door to the right. This is the main Chocolate Bar. The atmosphere inside is warm and the music is honeyed. A large chocolate fountain crowns the room, and patrons mingle holding long silver forks to sample the huge variety of fondue options that line the walls: fruits, nuts, cheeses, and all types of sweets and pastries. The drinks they serve at the bar are sweet and sophisticated and come with a side of cheesecake or tiramisu.

There is another level as well, for those who crave something different. Give a sign to the waiter and he will lead you to a door and down fifty-five steps to the lower level. This is the Cacao Lounge, where the treats are smaller and stronger. There is a darker atmosphere here and the customers sit at small tables, alone or in small groups, and talk softly. Some might accuse this of being a bitter experience, but it all depends on your taste.

So please, come and enjoy. You are always welcome, although for your own sake it might be best not to visit too often.
