Pantheon Search

The air was greasy with the tang of raw adoration.

The audience was already rapturous, and the excess worship was making Larry giddy. A cherub pointed, and he was on.

“Welcome to Pantheon Search,” Clotho, one of the judges, said. “You are . . . ?”

“Larry.” The audience tittered.

“Truly a divine name,” Atropos said dryly. “Who are you applying to become?”

“Oculus, god of virtual reality.”

“Special powers?”

“Waking dreams, VR without a helmet.” Larry was sweating.

“Okay. We’ll give you a divine spark and see what you can do, right after this message for Archimedes’s Marble Wipes. We’ll be right back.”

  1. There’s so much here. Love the opening line for starters. And the image of a cherub pointing. Love that too. Greek marble wipes. LOL Wonder if Target carries them.

That picture by T.S. should send you a thank you note for this since; you gave it such style. 🙂

    1. Yeah, not sure where the marble wipes came from, haha. Sometimes ideas just come and you run with them, eh?

    1. I imagine it kind of like right before a thunderstorm where the air feels fuller. Glad you liked it.

    1. Thanks, Linda. It’s funny, I was half asleep a few days ago and was coming up with that line. I was happy I remembered it when I woke up. 🙂

Lots of vivid description, wonderful graphic you and AI created. Very imaginative story, but I hope that idea never comes to pass. I’ve had people encourage me to do lucid dreaming, but after doing a little research learned that frequent lucid dreamers can sometimes find it difficult to distinguish waking and sleeping states. No thanks!

    1. Yeah, I don’t want any Inception scenarios where you don’t know what is what. Thanks for reading!

  5. Dear David,

Your descriptions were so vivid I could see, smell and taste the atmosphere. Ha! Advertisements even in the Pantheon. Brilliant.
